This is a custom 1940’s Ford
If this car were 64 times bigger I would be obliged to show you another pic of me in cam-whore mode pretending I’m driving it.
By now most of you non-existent readers should be asking why am I posting a picture of my toy car. The answer is simple. This car is among other a replica of an actual hot-rod made by this man
This is usually the point where I link to a Wikipedia entry for those still in the dark but there are none so here a short explanation:
This man is Vinnie a.k.a Big Daddy. He is a hot-rod builder. He had a show on
Discovery Real Time (now Discovery Turbo) back in the day called “The
Kustomizer” which is either intentionally misled for added kool-ness or he
wanted to show his Armenian heritage. Some of his more famous work is the
Helicopter Bus and a Mini Cooper with two heads.
Recently, Big Daddy and his crew came to Malaysia for this
Here’s a little snippet from the official website to show you what it’s all about.
The Main Sponsor of The Xtreme International Autoshow is Tourism Malaysia.
Xtreme International Autoshow is a bold and ambitious project which aims to
promote new standards of car modification in our country and create an Annual
Malaysian Motor Show on par with other internationally renowned motor shows such
as SEMA Las Vegas, Essen Motor Show, Germany and the Geneva International Motor
Shows which draw local and international visitors by the thousands every
year.
One of the key differences of our show from other motor shows is that our
show features extreme modified vehicles and customized vehicles that have been
altered and upgraded from their OEM form.
Objectives:
•To be an annual event that attracts thousands of car fans locally and
internationally just like Formula 1
•To make Malaysia a hotspot to showcase
automobile manufacturers’ latest designs, concept cars and modified/custom cars
from all over the world
•To make Malaysia a hotspot to showcase the latest
after market car/bike accessories and technology
•To be the first ever
National Level Modified Car Competition; recognized and endorsed by all relevant
authorities and the motoring community
•To be the largest annual gathering
of custom modified cars in Asia
So in essence it’s a car show with a difference which for the uninitiated means this:
Enough subs, mids and tweeters to deafen you and the next three generations of your family.
After paying the RM28 necessary to enter (A portion of it goes to charity) I was given a car sticker (Sorry, no pics)
A contest form with makes me allegible to win some sorta holiday (I think)
And surprisingly... A ticket
And surprisingly... A ticket
I arrived at around 3-ish had about an hour before anything really happened so I decided to look around. The amount of custom cars here are simply amazing and they came from all around too. Take for example the “Jakarta Monster” an Isuzu Trooper modified to resemble a Hummer H2
There was also the “Bangkok Demon”. Don’t let the average styling* fool you though. This is probably the loudest car in the entire floor. Even I had to close my ears to catch these pics
Here’s the rest of the “Bangkok Demon” crew
There were also some local heroes like “Pink Lady”
“Giler Blaster”
And “Mr. Alien”
There were also booths like this Tom’s sticker wrap-around Audi TT (I was too late to catch the Wrap-around :-( )
Diamond Zeus is basically an ultra-high end custom shop and the cars in showed on display were Ridiculously opulent
On the competition side were 3 categories namely Open Xtreme, Proton Xtreme and K-car Xtreme
There were a few crazies there too. Like this Proton Satria
And this one called “Kereta Ganazzz” which originally was a Perodua Kancil
In fact I loved almost every car on the show. Almost was the key word there and the exception has to be this one
Personally it was way too loud even for ridiculous show car standard. I can almost imagine the driver of this car being one of those Ah Beng with neon hair like these
But back to the show. It was six-ish and still nothing was going on which probably is my only beef with the show. It didn’t keep to the schedule (or maybe I just couldn’t find it which makes bad placement the reason to blame). In fact I was readying myself for a bad review when they came
from right: Wax Daddy, Jasmin, Big Daddy and some random show model
Media attention was crazy but nobody seemed to dare take a picture with him. So, I politely asked. He obliged. I even got that mock dollar above.
Soon after the Ministry of Tourism arrived
It was then that this event was finally picking up. To get a better view I pretended to be media. Being a blogger and all technically I was albeit the alternative kind. First off the fashion show (Which were all purchasable and will go to charity)
Next, Wax Daddy sang “My Way”
The performance was actually pretty good. Didn’t know the guy could sing (Sorry couldn’t get a video though, my camera’s mic is shit). Next on the line was the obligatory speech by Dato’ Seri Azalina.
Bla…bla…bla… Then, we headed the “Hell Pit” for some good ol’ BBQ Volvo
Yes folks a Kia Carnival is doing the BBQ-ing but then again this car has been modified to strip the whole soccer-mom appeal right the hell out of it
Conclusion: This is an awesome show
*average of course being by the ridiculous show car standard
